The Circle - Art Workshop

Finding Self-identity via picture book and art workshop.

2021 - 2022

Every circle is an imperfect circle.

The story of "The Circle" revolves around the clay character Little Circle and his family. Presented in the form of a wordless photo picture book, it captures the aesthetic differences between everyday family life and the urban and rural settings. The whimsical scenes also depict the various possibilities of beauty in a diverse society.

Invited by the Lixian Education Foundation and Reprint Culture Publishing House, the author of "The Imperfect Circle," Fang Xuzhong, and the editor Zhong Xinying collaborated to organize children's workshops. They brought the picture book to remote elementary schools in places like Chiayi, Pingtung, and Hualien. Through the picture book, they guided children to explore the relationships between color, material, shape, artistic expression, and personality traits. By engaging in activities such as self-exploration through drafts, creating clay figures, and photography, the workshops encouraged children to transform their unique qualities into creative works and observe the relationships between themselves, peers, and family members.
